Whether you are learning a new sport or finding a new coach in Swindon ice skating lessons will help you to reach your goals. As a British Ice Skating Coach, I am fully qualified to teach all the way from beginner to top competitor levels.
At Swindon, ice skating lessons are scheduled for 30 minutes and cost £30 per lesson. This is normally done as individuals, however, can be small groups of siblings or friends. Use the booking portal to check my availability and if you have questions please reach out to me.
Starting a new sport is daunting, but here at Swindon we make ice skating lessons fun. In your first ice skating lesson I will meet you at skate hire and help you lace up. We will get on the ice together and begin your journey with the best sport in the world.
Together, we will start by learning to walk and stop on the ice. From there we move to skating forwards and backwards. Beyond this, we use the British Ice Skating curriculum up to UK Skate Level 8. More information of this can be found here.
Our first session will be to assess what level you are skating at and your aspirations. From here, I will create a plan to help achieve your goals.
Here at Swindon, ice skating lessons can be supplemented by off ice training. I offer in depth training to enhance your technique and allow you to progress without needing to be on the ice.
Students can have ice skating lessons and off ice sessions which allow for a complete training regime for those targeting national level competitions. I am a fully qualified physical trainer and have worked as one for many years. This experience allows me to safely design training for people looking for improvements.
The cost for off ice training is the same as for on ice training because the sessions will be tailored for the individual.
By taking part in off ice lessons, skaters are able to train technique and body position without using precision ice time. This allows a more holistic approach to improving a skater’s ability. We can focus on jumping technique, choreography, and lifting ability.
The simple answer is: it depends. For those looking to compete at the national level and above, off ice lessons are a must. However, for skaters not targeting this, then off ice will help but is by no means a necessity.
For people learning to skate, there is no need to invest large sums of money in buying ice skates. The rink will allow you to hire skates for a low cost. It is not until elements such as jumps that someone will need a pair of skates. Even at that point, second hand skates are affordable and easy to find. When that time comes, I will be more than happy to offer advice for the particular skater’s needs.
Some people may wish to wear pads and helmets. This is a personal choice and there is no right or wrong answer. If you are planning on using pads, I will happily offer advice on flexibility and protection.
