Hi, I’m Harry Mattick, a fully qualified British Ice Skating coach based in Swindon. Alongside this, I’m a British figure skater competing in the Senior Pairs category. In the last 23 years of competing I have won 10 British Nationals medals, 5 of which are gold. Through my time competing I have represented Britain in 25 countries and the Youth Olympics. In 2019 I set a British record as the first person to land a quadruple jump in competition.
I now compete internationally for Team GB as part of a Senior Pairs team with my skating partner Lydia Smart. Together, we have medalled in the British Championships. And competed at the 2023 World Figure Skating Championships in Japan.
Alongside being a competitor and Swindon ice skating coach, I have also been employed by advertising companies to double for actors while filming. Alongside this, I have been the subject of BBC documentaries as well.
As a coach, I teach people from beginner level to competition standard. Ice skating is my passion, and I love sharing this with others. These lessons take place as both on and off ice training as well as fitness and strength conditioning. I am a fully qualified physical training instructor and as a result am able to provide a holistic approach to training for those skaters looking to compete at the highest level.
As British National Championship medalists, my teammate, Lydia Smart, and I know what it takes to compete at the highest level. We train in Swindon and Oxford as a Senior Pairs team. As a result of our hard work we represent Team GB internationally.
We both competed as free skaters at the Senior level before joining forces in 2020. Currently, we are ranked second in Britain and have represented Great Britain in the 2023 World Figure Skating Championships. It is the team aspiration to rank first in Britain and compete at the World Championships and Winter Olympic Games.
As a team, we are fortunate enough to be sponsored by a couple of foundations and businesses. We are incredibly grateful to our sponsors and they help us to enter and compete in competitions around the world.
If you would like to support British athletes too, please visit the sponsorship page to see just what this allows us to do and how to be involved in our journey.
Through my time as a Swindon ice skating coach and competitor, I have had some amazing opportunities. I have been a focus of a BBC documentary and worked for television crews as a double.
I believe strongly in helping others. Alongside my ice skating coaching and training, I also donate my time as a charity rep.
I have also done more seasonal work. Over Christmas 2021, temporary ice rinks in Oxfordshire asked my skating teammate, Lydia, and I to put on an opening performance. We had to choreograph and perform routines to music requested by the client. We very much enjoyed this because we were able to share our passion with people enjoying skating over the festive period.
