Harry Mattick

Harry Mattick - Biography

Early Skating

Harry Mattick began skating at the age of 6 to improve his balance. Little did he know that he would make it his career. Harry initially began, as all do, learning edge work and basic elements. However, by the time he was 13 Harry was performing double jumps and competing for Team GB in the novice championships. He was the British Novice Male Champion in 2006.

Single Skating

Harry promoted to the Junior league in 2008, at the age of just 15. His first British Junior Nationals competition in 2008 saw him win gold. This was a title he would win 4 times in a row.

Unsurprisingly, Harry promoted to the Senior category in 2012 aged 18. In his first Senior Nationals competition he won a silver medal. Between 2012 and 2019 Harry Mattick medalled at Nationals 4 times and was selected to represent Team GB internationally.

His highlight of his single skating career is a joint affair. In 2017 Harry won the prestigious Sofia Trophy, a high level international competition. Alongside this, he was the first Briton to produce a quadruple jump in competition, and in combination.

In the last 13 years Harry has won a medal at the British National Championships 10 times, and 5 of those are gold.

Harry Mattick and Lydia Smart - Pairs Skating

In 2020, Harry Mattick and Lydia Smart teamed up to train together as Senior Pairs competitors. Their first British Nationals competition saw them medal. This was their first major outing as a new team. Not only were they new to the discipline but had had to contend with the COVID 19 pandemic which stopped them from training for 9 months.

In 2023 Harry and Lydia travelled to Japan as part of Team GB and competed in the ISU World Figure Skating Championships. As part of Team GB and world class athletes they have represented their country with pride and now look to target the Winter Olympics.
